At the age of 14, he won a contest that gave him his first taste of radio broadcasting. He impressed the station managers so much that they repeatedly invited him back to guest host throughout his high school years.

College and Early Career

During college, Leykis remained committed to his radio career.

Despite leaving university due to financial constraints, he landed a job as Mike Simone's partner on "The Simone Phone" in New York City. He then worked at various radio stations in Virginia, Florida, and Arizona before settling in Los Angeles in 1988.
